Over the weekend, five strike team bags, each worth about $2,000, vanished from a secured storage container on West Louise Avenue, a place you wouldn’t expect to see crime pop up. These bags contain essential equipment necessary for wildland fire deployments, including sleeping bags, uniforms, and meals.
The fire department reported the theft on Sunday morning and is asking residents to check their surveillance cameras for any clues. While two of the bags have since been recovered at nearby businesses, the rest, along with some missing items, are still unaccounted for. Unfortunately, the station’s lack of surveillance footage has made it challenging to identify the culprits.
