Get ready to rev your engines and maybe even cuss a little because this weekend is introducing a 70-hour closure of one of Sacramento’s busiest connector ramps. From Friday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 6 p.m., those trying to transition from westbound Business 80 to eastbound Highway 50 will find themselves hitting an unexpected wall. Yes, this is not one for the faint-hearted, especially if you have an actual social life that requires you to leave the house.
What’s causing this monumental inconvenience? Blame the Fix 50 project, which aims to make our roads safer and smarter through concrete work, drainage improvements, and traffic technology upgrades. It sounds boring, but sadly this means our weekends will be filled with detours and delays instead of sun-soaked adventures. If only they could focus on fixing the roads during the 9-5 grind while we’re at work, right?
To make matters worse, unlike the usual 55-hour closures that provide at least some mercy for the Monday morning commuters, this one stretches into the afternoon commute. So while you’re trying to enjoy that well-deserved post-weekend latte, you might just find yourself stuck in traffic instead. If nothing else, it could be an excellent way to catch up on your playlist. Just remember to stay calm—screaming into the steering wheel won’t speed things up!
