Rock 'n' Mud: Aftershock Festival Turns Up the Volume and the Muck!

The 13th annual Aftershock festival took over Discovery Park this weekend, filling the air with the sound of electric guitar riffs and the joy of dedicated music fans. Over 120 artists unleashed their energy on four stages, including headliners like blink-182, Korn, Bring Me the Horizon, and Sacramento’s own Deftones. If you thought you could keep your shoes clean at a rock festival, think again— rain had other plans, leaving festival-goers with muddy footwear and plenty of wild stories to share!

Local hero Tony Pitkin, who attended with his wife, embraced the chaos of the muddy mosh pits. He even expressed his appreciation for the festival as part of Sacramento’s identity, joking about how the squelching mud just adds to the “grimy energy” of the event. Not to be outdone, costumed attendees, including two friends dressed as Ronald McDonald, partook in crowd-surfing during Knocked Loose’s set— sharing thrilling moments and laughter as the music pulsed through the park.

If nothing else, Aftershock showed that music isn’t just what you hear; it’s also about the experiences you share, the memories you make, and yes, sometimes the mud you wade through! So, who else is planning to survive next year’s event? What’s your top festival memory that might rival the muddy mayhem?
