Rapper Lil Poppa's Cause of Death Revealed in Coroner's Report

The Jacksonville rap scene lost one of its brightest young voices in February, and now the official details surrounding rapper Lil Poppa’s death have come to light. The Fulton County coroner’s report confirms what authorities had hinted at weeks earlier: the 25-year-old artist, whose real name was Janarious Mykel Wheeler, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left side of his head while seated as a passenger in a vehicle.

The tragedy unfolded on Interstate 85 south of Hapeville, Georgia, following a single-car accident. According to Hapeville Chief of Police Bruce Hedley, the incident occurred shortly after Lil Poppa’s manager had come to meet him. A toxicology report is still pending, which could provide additional context about the circumstances leading up to his death.
