As Thanksgiving rapidly approaches, Friends of Folsom is donning its superhero capes to fight hunger one turkey at a time. Under the guidance of the ever-passionate organizer, Jeff Garcia, this local group has tossed a fun twist into fundraising with their entertaining “punt, pass, kick and putt” contest. Picture this: a lively gathering at the Pitch and Fiddle, where community members not only battle for bragging rights but also help put food on the table for families in need. Talk about a win-win!
The fun starts at 6:30 p.m., and it’s not just about kicking a ball—there’s money and prizes up for grabs! Half of the proceeds from the contest go to the victors, while the rest will help fund the group’s mission to donate tens of thousands of turkeys this year. From humble beginnings of donating just 50 turkeys, the group now has its sights set on a jaw-dropping 10,000! Who knew Thanksgiving could be so competitive?
Garcia admits that they never aimed to reach such lofty goals, but the kindness of the community and local businesses has fueled this incredible journey. He’s grateful for every dollar and turkey being transformed into meals for those in need. So, while you’re munching on your turkey this season, just remember—many folks in your neighborhood are determined to make sure others are feasting too. What’s your favorite holiday tradition that gives back?
