When tragedy strikes in the most public and violent of ways, the path forward becomes impossibly steep. Yet Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy sees something remarkable in how Erika Kirk has navigated the aftermath of her husband Charlie’s death—a resilience rooted not in denial, but in deliberate purpose.

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was 31. The execution-style nature of his death—occurring during a peaceful college debate, an act of discourse the nation has historically championed—added a layer of shock and senselessness to an already devastating loss. For Erika, then, the task of moving forward wasn’t simply about grief management. It was about transforming that grief into action.

Speaking exclusively with Us Weekly about her new book All American Patriotism, Campos-Duffy emphasized the particular weight Erika carries.“It must be so difficult what she’s going through,”the Fox&Friends Weekend cohost reflected.“It’s tragic enough if you have a spouse or the father of your children die in a car accident, but to have them executed on a college campus, doing peaceful, friendly debate with college students—really in the spirit of debate that our country has always encouraged and embraced—it’s just so shocking and violent.”What struck Campos-Duffy most wasn’t just the loss itself, but the spectacle surrounding it, and how that spectacle has colored everything Erika now does in the public eye.

Yet Erika has chosen to channel that pain into continuation. She stepped into the role of chairwoman and CEO of Turning Point USA, the conservative organization her late husband helped create. When Campos-Duffy approached her about writing a foreword to All American Patriotism, Erika said yes—and delivered something deeply moving.“She says,‘Charlie never got to see America turn 250 and some days that thought still settles heavy to my heart,'”Campos-Duffy shared. Those words, simple and aching, capture the essence of her approach: honoring what was lost while refusing to stop speaking the truths Charlie believed in.

Campos-Duffy sees in Erika a woman sustained by faith and conviction.“I admire the way she’s continued to move forward,”she explained.“She continues to try to carry that message of patriotism and love for America, and certainly her faith to it all. I mean, since the first day after this happened, I think it was difficult not to notice that faith was indeed what was carrying her.”That observation speaks to something deeper than resilience—it speaks to a choice to let tragedy become testimony rather than tombstone.

All American Patriotism is available now, carrying with it Erika’s words and, implicitly, her resolve. The book itself—a striking collection of photographs capturing the nation’s natural wonders paired with personal reflections from Fox News personalities—becomes a vessel for that patriotism Charlie embodied. In publishing her foreword, Erika ensures his voice echoes forward, even as she writes her own story of survival and purpose.
