Hold onto your helmets! Placer County is stepping up its game against reckless e-bike riders. With e-bike accidents skyrocketing more than 18 times since 2018, local authorities are on high alert. In a recent operation, they stopped 183 riders and issued 30 citations while towing 25 e-motorcycles for speeding like they were auditioning for a Fast & Furious movie. Truly, the only thing flying more than those bikes are the tickets!
E-bike sales are booming, accounting for a whopping 95% of bike sales, but it seems some riders are blissfully ignorant of the laws. The classification system can be confusing, and many folks find themselves unwittingly riding bikes that could easily win a street race. Local retailer Gleb Rezvukhin shared that it’s often kids zipping around on these powerful machines, and the repercussions could be dire. It’s a growing concern that something needs to change before we have more than just a story to tell.
