After Dark: A Nightly Drive Ends in Tragedy in Fairfield

Early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian met a tragic fate after being struck by a driver suspected of driving under the influence in Fairfield. The suspect, 35-year-old Kyle Dolcee, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI when the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the Travis Boulevard overpass near the I-80 off-ramp.

It’s always gut-wrenching to hear about accidents like this, where lives are changed forever in the blink of an eye. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead right where they fell. After the incident, Travis Boulevard and the eastbound freeway off-ramp were closed for several hours for investigation, but they have since reopened.

While Dolcee remained at the crash site for police to take him into custody, the identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released. Driving under the influence is a serious offense, and this incident reminds us all of how quickly a fun night can go horribly wrong. Let’s hope something good comes from this tragedy—maybe a renewed commitment to road safety for all.
