A shift at a Yuba City McDonald’s turned violent over the weekend when one employee allegedly attacked a coworker with hot liquid, leaving the victim with severe burns across multiple parts of his body.
On Saturday evening after 11 p.m., Yuba City police responded to the McDonald’s located at Harter Parkway and Colusa Highway following reports of an employee burned by hot liquid. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering significant burn injuries to his face, neck, hands, shoulder, and upper body. The severity of his injuries warranted immediate transport to a hospital in the Sacramento area for specialized burn treatment—a grim indicator of how serious the assault had been.
The investigation moved quickly. Police determined that the suspect and victim were coworkers, and preliminary findings indicated that 23-year-old Jalani Bluett of Yuba City allegedly threw the hot liquid on his colleague before fleeing the scene. By Monday, Sutter County deputies had arrested Bluett and booked him into the Sutter County Jail on charges of battery causing serious bodily injury.
Workplace violence remains a persistent concern in service-industry jobs, where tensions and close quarters can escalate quickly. Fast-food restaurants in particular have seen their share of on-the-job incidents involving employees and management. This case, however, stands out for its severity and the deliberate nature of the alleged attack—using a readily available hazard (hot liquid) as a weapon in what appears to have been a targeted assault rather than a spontaneous clash.
The incident is still under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Yuba City Police Department at 530-822-4660. For the injured employee, recovery from burns of this extent will likely be a long road, both physically and emotionally.
