The Swim to Feed the Hungry is not just about splashes and speed; it’s about making waves in the fight against food insecurity. Hosted by Lifetime Arden, this charity swim meet has transformed into a beloved annual tradition, helping raise both awareness and funds for families struggling to put food on the table. With competitors diving in for either a 500-yard or 1,000-yard race, the event attracts some of the top talent in youth swimming in the area.
Cooper Zarro, the brains behind this initiative, originally started the event while still in middle school. Can you believe that just twenty kids participated in its inaugural year? Fast forward to today, and Zarro, now a senior at Jesuit High School, can’t help but be amazed by the event’s growth. In just six years, Swim to Feed the Hungry has raked in over $70,000 to support Raley’s Food for Families.
It’s refreshing to see young people use their skills for a purpose beyond medals and trophies—a true testament to the positive impact that local initiatives can create in fighting hunger. As Cooper Zarro’s journey shows, sometimes the biggest change starts with one dedicated individual taking the plunge for their community, one lap at a time. What a way to make a difference!
