Sacramento's Expanding Horizon: A New Downtown Experience Awaits!

Downtown Sacramento is on the verge of a transformative leap as its boundaries expand from 66 to 102 blocks. This ambitious change aims to not only beautify the area but to enhance the vibrancy of the urban experience. As Michael Ault, the executive director of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, points out, it’s time to showcase all that Sacramento has to offer, beyond just its role as an employment hub.

Ault envisions evenings and weekends bursting with exciting activities, promising to reshape how residents and visitors interact with the heart of the city. With the new limits stretching south to O Street and the Crocker Art Museum, north to the Railyards, and west to the Old Sacramento waterfront, there’s a lot more to explore!

While the workforce figures are only at about 68% of pre-COVID levels, this expansion is seen as part of a broader strategy to attract new businesses and events to the area. If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that we need vibrant spaces to thrive and connect. So, let’s hope the new downtown can become the social playground it’s meant to be, proving that Sacramento is more than just a nine-to-five kind of town!
