California Governor Gavin Newsom is off on another whirlwind trip, this time to the East Coast. Just a couple of weeks after returning from a climate summit in Brazil, he’s headed to New York for the high-profile DealBook Summit. Sharing the stage with major industry players and celebrities, Newsom aims to put California’s recovery needs on the national stage.
Following his appearance at the summit, he’ll make a stop in Washington D.C. to meet with federal officials. His main goal? To push for a formal request to Congress to release nearly $40 billion for recovery programs to help Los Angeles rebuild from devastating wildfires. It seems this request has become a bit of a slow burn, much like the fires themselves, and it’s been nearly crickets from the Trump Administration so far.
Finally, the governor will wrap up his week in Arizona at a Democratic Governors Association meeting before returning to California. It’s a busy schedule, but if anyone can manage it with flair, it’s Newsom. Talk about putting your frequent flyer miles to good use! Will he finally get the funding LA desperately needs? Only time will tell.
