When TV personality Ross Matthews and husband Wellinthon García-Mathews decided to mark their four-year anniversary, they didn’t settle for the usual dinner and a movie. Instead, they jetted off to Beaches Turks&Caicos to celebrate at the Caribbean resort’s grand opening of Treasure Beach Village on May 16—transforming a milestone into an extended tropical escape filled with beachfront dining and ocean breeze moments.

But what really stands out isn’t the resort or the vacation itself—it’s what Matthews, 46, has learned about partnership in four years of marriage. Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, the RuPaul’s Drag Race judge revealed something that cuts to the heart of what makes a relationship work:“I’ve learned how special a partnership can be when it’s the right fit, and you feel like you can tackle the world, because even if you fall flat on your face, they’re going to pick you up and say,‘OK, let’s keep going.’And there’s such a freedom in that, in knowing that you’re not alone in the world. I feel very safe.”

That phrase—”I feel very safe”—speaks volumes. In a world where visibility and vulnerability are often part of the public contract for LGBTQ+ figures, safety in partnership becomes something more than romance. It’s a foundation. For Matthews and García-Mathews, who tied the knot in Puerto Vallarta—the very place they first met—in May 2022, that security clearly matters. García-Mathews kept things lighter when asked what he’d learned, quipping simply,“That he’s my favorite person, but I already knew that when I said yes.”

The couple’s anniversary celebration arrives just as Pride Month winds down, and Matthews used the moment to remind people why celebrating queer love remains essential.“It always feels like the most important time, but it certainly feels like it now just because we made so much progress, and it kind of feels like there have been attempts to stifle that progress,”he told Us. His takeaway?“We need to double down now and just remind people that the genie’s out of the bottle, honey. We’re not going anywhere. And why would you want us to? We’re fabulous!”

That blend of personal joy and broader advocacy is vintage Ross—finding a way to make his own happiness speak for something larger. Whether it’s a Caribbean getaway or a red carpet moment, he’s living proof that love, safety, and visibility can coexist beautifully.
