49ers Star Brandon Aiyuk Faces Arrest Warrant Over Social Media Speeding Video

When Brandon Aiyuk posted car content to social media last December, he probably didn’t expect it would land him in legal trouble months later. The San Francisco 49ers receiver now has an arrest warrant issued by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding—all stemming from a video that appeared to show him driving well over the 40 mph speed limit on the road in front of Levi’s Stadium.

District attorney’s spokesman Sean Webby confirmed the warrant, which was first reported by the California Post. Aiyuk did post an apology shortly after the video went viral, writing on social media:“Sorry ya’ll, my car content won’t come with speeding anymore. Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones! My apologies.”That acknowledgment and plea for perspective didn’t prevent prosecutors from moving forward.

The warrant is the latest chapter in an increasingly complicated saga involving Aiyuk and the 49ers organization. The talented receiver—who’s recorded 294 catches for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns since being drafted in the first round in 2020—has been sidelined by a knee injury since October 2024. He’s currently on the reserve/left squad list after missing games late last season. But his troubles with the team go deeper than injury. Last summer, the 49ers voided $27 million in guaranteed money from his contract after he failed to show up for meetings and other team activities.

General manager John Lynch has made it clear he doesn’t expect Aiyuk to play for the organization again. The team is waiting to see if another franchise will offer a trade, though Aiyuk’s current situation—zero guaranteed money remaining on his four-year, $120 million extension—makes that possibility increasingly unlikely. He’s got three years left on that deal, but with no security and his relationship with the front office fractured, his career trajectory looks uncertain.

What makes this story sting is the gap between the player Aiyuk once was and the circumstances he faces now. A first-round pick with massive earning potential, he’s now juggling a legal warrant, a fractured relationship with his team, and a rehabilitation process that extends far beyond his knee. The speeding charge might seem minor on its surface, but it’s another reminder that visibility comes with accountability—and that one careless moment captured on camera can have real consequences.]
